Boys Hockey: St. Mary's wears down Bridgewater-Raynham, 5-1 It took a while for the St. Mary's boys hockey team to solve Bridgewater-Raynham's standout junior goaltender Peter Drowne. Once they did, the Spartans struck in the frenetic manner to which their fans are accustomed, packing all of their goals into the final 16:41 of Saturday night's 5-1 non-league win at Connery Rink.
"For two periods, they gave us all we could handle. We didn't bring our A game but I like the way we stayed with it and responded in the third period. I thought (sophomore) goalie Bailey MacBurnie played an exceptionally good game," said St. Mary's coach Mark Lee.
The Trojans, out of the Old Colony League, broke a scoreless tie at 7:22 of the second period when John Rizzo converted a Nick Holmes set-up. St. Mary's pulled even with 1:41 left in the period on a goal by Frank Moreschi.
Jared Fitzpatrick popped home the game-winner at 1:54 of the third period, and then Nikko Markham created space at the 9:02 mark. Unassisted strikes by Bobby Mullins (two assists) at 13:18 and Brendan Mageary at 14:49 iced it. MacBurnie finished with 13 saves.
The Spartans take on Hingham Wednesday night at Connery in the second game of a boy-girl doubleheader between the two schools.
