Hockey roundup: St. Mary's boys hockey stops Matignon
The St. Mary's defense is making Scrooge look like a philanthropist these days, posting its third shutout in a row with a 7-0 win over Matignon Wednesday at Stoneham.

The Spartans blew this one open with four goals in the second period. James Perkins finished with two goals and two assists: Tom Braswell, Brendan Mageary, Bucky Surette, Jordan Manthorne and Tim Aylward had one each. Cam Kennedy had three assists and Cam O'Neill, two.

The bad news, however, is that defenseman Bryan Wilkins suffered what coach Mark Lee said appeared to be a broken collarbone with about three minutes remaining in the game.

"He's one of our starters," Lee said. "So losing him hurts a lot."

Senior Don Hesse was in net for the first two periods with freshman Bailey MacBurnie preserving the shutout. St. Mary's is 6-1-3 overall, 4-0-3 in the Catholic Central League. The Spartans have a big league game against Arlington Catholic on Saturday.
