Hockey Roundup: St. Mary's beats Arlington Catholic St. Mary's sophomore goalie Bailey MacBurnie chose a great time to post his first shutout as the visiting Spartans defeated rival Arlington Catholic 4-0 on Wednesday night at Ed Burns Arena.
"Bailey was great tonight," said St. Mary's coach Mark Lee. "This was a big game and he stepped up when we needed him."
In what Lee called a "total team effort," the Spartans got what turned out to be the game winner at 11:33 of the second period. Eric McAdams netted the goal with an assist going to Nikko Markham.
With MacBurnie standing tall behind them and the lead, the Spartans got to work. Brandon Mageary scored not even a minute after McAdams, with an assist going to Frank Moreschi. Bobby Mullins added another goal with :35 seconds to play in the period.
With the game out of reach, Moreschi scored the fourth Spartans goal at 7:35. Cam O'Neil and Tim Aylward had assists.
"It was a big rivalry game and an even bigger win," said Lee of his team's victory. "We're always in a battle with Arlington for the league championship, and this victory puts us in a great spot to win it."
